Texans Safety Danieal Manning has announced that he will in fact be hanging up the cleats and retiring from the NFL after 9 seasons. The veteran safety and kick returner announced his retirement during a Tuesday afternoon appearance on Texans Radio.

"I decided I'm going to hang the cleats up," Manning said. "I'm officially retiring."

Manning entered the NFL as a second round pick in 2006, spending his first five years as a Chicago Bear. He signed a free agent deal with the Texans in 2011, and along with free agent cornerback Johnathan Joseph, instantly stabilized what had become a shaky secondary.

Manning said he still thinks he could contribute to an NFL team, but has no second thoughts about retiring. He then went on to say he still wants to be involved in the game. Perhaps coaching on the High School or College level. We will see how that goes.

It's been a lot of fun to watch Manning week in and week out give his all for the Texans and I hope you'll join me in wishing the Texas native a long, happy retirement. And thank you for playing your ass off.
