Deadpool finally met his first MCU character.

Fox announced an untitled ‘Deadpool’ movie will be opening later this year… and it’s PG-13. What the heck is it?

Deadpool is such a pop culture sensation that even Good Housekeeping — yes, as in the magazines your grandmother often has stacked on her doily-covered end table — is getting in on the action. The Merc With a Mouth is the special guest editor for the magazine’s upcoming holiday issue, which is, uh, stuffed with all kinds of delicious Deadpool-ized recipes and tips.

Behold, the gag reel. Long a staple of the home video market, the gag reel was perhaps at its most popular in the 1990s, when Jackie Chan released a string of movies that included painful outtakes during the closing credits. When studios realized that they could package an entire DVD release around the special feature menu, the gag reel became a mainstay of any comedy releases over the last 15 years. And because Deadpool was one big improvised joke with enough physical humor to make Mel Brooks blush, it was a natural fit for the film’s Blu-ray release as well.

Isn’t it just like Ryan Reynolds to upstage a colleague? After listening to critics sing the praises of Logan for the past few weeks, fans around the country took their seats on Friday night ready to watch Hugh Jackman strap on his metal claws one last time. And so it came as quite a surprise when the first superhero to appear onscreen wasn’t Wolverine but Deadpool, everyone’s favorite violent and profane superhero — and, if we’re being honest with each other, the entire reason an R-rated Wolverine movie was greenlit by 20th Century Fox.

The Internet Movie Database is a fount of helpful information. With a few simple clicks, users can learn who shot the Miley Cyrus vehicle So Undercover (Things to Come cinematographer Denis Lenoir), which sequel in the Hellraiser franchise featured a performance from a young Adam Scott (the fourth one), or how old Taraji P. Henson is (who looks that good at 46?!). As a repository for loose factoids from in and around the world of screen entertainment, it can’t be beat. As a source for critical perspectives on those same films, however... hoo boy. Just take a gander at any comment section for a movie’s page and marvel at the IMDb is the site where rabid anti-Ghostbusters zealots congregated to downvote Paul Feig’s movie into oblivion weeks before its actual release, and the newly-released IMDb Top 10 provides an even clearer view of its user base.

Following its record-breaking and pleasantly surprising run at the box office, Deadpool is getting ready to invade your home on DVD and Blu-ray this May. We won’t get an unrated director’s cut of the Merc With a Mouth’s solo outing, and although bonus feature details are not yet available, you can go ahead and pre-order your very own copy of the anti-superhero’s hit film right now. Just days into the movie’s run as the most successful R-rated opening of all time, Deadpool seemingly broke a fifth wall with a 20,000-strong petition to host SNL, or at least Ryan Reynolds in character. Take your pick of reasons that would never happen, but now Deadpool has given an official response, dragging Kanye West’s recent backstage tirade into the mix.

We already knew that there were two actors involved with bringing Colossus to life in Deadpool: Andre Tricoteux provided the mo-cap performance for the larger-than-life X-Men character, while Stefan Kapicic provided his heavily-accented voice. But according to this interesting new VFX reel, there were three more performers involved in creating Colossus — yes, it took five whole men to make one giant mutant superhero.

Tim Miller’s R-rated adaptation of the beloved, foul-mouthed superhero was on track to make $60 million at the box office this weekend, but Deadpool is now expected to top that estimate as it has already begun breaking box office records for February. The Merc With a Mouth’s first solo outing is primed for the biggest R-rated movie opening of all time, as well as the biggest opening for a film released in the month of February.
