Health Inspection of Victoria Area Eateries

The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the food temperature/time requirements category is 5 demerits; in the personnel/handling/source requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the facility and equipment requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of food temperature/time requirements and personnel/handling/source requirements are detailed.

FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING AUG. 22

The "New" Rodeo No. 2, 2001 John Stockbauer Drive, Victoria. Demerits: 31. Improper cold-hold temperature. Wash hands before glove use. Cover all food in the walk-in cooler. Cannot have bare hand contact when touching tortillas. Store raw meat below other food. Hand sink may not have items inside of it. Do not use thank-you bags to store food directly in. Need light shields over the grill. Two facility or equipment violations.

El Norteno Mexican Food, 4105 Port Lavaca Drive, Victoria. Demerits: 19. Do not wash hands at three-compartment sink. Cover all of the food in the walk-in cooler. Need a barrier in between the chip containers and chips. Do not touch chips with bare hands. Need to have hot water in restrooms. Store sanitizer rags in buckets with sanitizer. Repair the screen door. One facility or equipment violation.

Wal-Mart Subway, 4101 Houston Highway, Victoria. Demerits: 15. Wash hands in between tasks and before glove change. Employee drinks need lid and straw. Wash hands in between tasks and before putting on gloves. Post the 2014 permit. One facility or equipment violation.

ABC Child Development Center Inc., 104 Warehouse Road, Victoria. Demerits: 14. Wash hands before glove use. Store raw meat on bottom shelf. Label spray bottles. Store utensils in the same direction to prevent someone touching the end of a utensil where the customer puts their mouth. Two facility or equipment violations.

Kentucky Fried Chicken, 1010 E. Rio Grande St., Victoria. Demerits: 12. Wash hands before glove use. Employee drinks need lid and straw. Store raw chicken below other food in the walk-in cooler.

5 Point Stop, 607 N. Moody St., Victoria. Demerits: 11. Some of the big ice bags need to have proper labels. Deli Express croissants need use-by dates on them. Post procedure on how the scoop and tongs or any other dishes should be washed. Clean the ice dispenser, and ice scoop needs to be kept on a clean surface. Keep paper goods at least 6 inches off floor. One facility or equipment violation.

El Zacatecas, 521 S. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 9. Improper cold-hold temperature. Date-label food with seven-day use-by date.

Moo Moo Family Restaurant, 709 S. Moody St., Victoria. Demerits: 8. Need to have hot water available for hand washing. Must have hot water at the hand sink.

Beijing Garden, 113 S. Main St., Victoria. Demerits: 7. Need to have hot water at the hand sink. Address problem with presence of roaches. One facility or equipment violation.

Meyersville Country Club, 5195 Mission Valley Road, Cuero. Demerits: 4. Date-label potentially hazardous foods in cooler.

Memorial Stadium Concession, 1110 Sam Houston Drive, Victoria. Demerits: 4. Must have mixing valve on all hand sinks.

Victoria County Jail, 101 N. Glass St., Victoria. Demerits: 4. Kitchen workers' drinks need lids and straws.

REINSPECTIONS

Bearly Beginning, 2005 Lawndale St., Victoria, inspected July 22 with 16 demerits. Reinspected Aug. 15 with violation corrected.

Moo Moo Family Restaurant, 709 S. Moody St., Victoria, inspected Aug. 19 with 8 demerits. Reinspected Aug. 20 with violations corrected.

Eddy Packing Co., Inc., 404 Airport Drive, Yoakum, inspected July 29 with 24 demerits. Reinspected Aug. 13 with having moved the three-door glass cooler to an area away from the fryer. Ordered a new cooler. Will be in in about two weeks. Cleaned coils in the three-door glass cooler and added freon.
