Cut-Rate Batman Goes to Jail for Obstructing Police

A manhunt for a hit-and-run driver in upper Michigan over the weekend turned into a full-blown Gotham city sideshow as state police say they were forced to arrest a man who showed up at the crime scene dressed like Batman.

Authorities say they had no choice but to arrest 33-year-old Mark Wayne Williams (not to be mistaken for Bruce Wayne), who upon arriving at the scene of the accident dressed in a cut-rate Batman costume, insisted that he lend officers a helping hand with their investigation.

However, according to State Police Sergeant Jeff Gorno, the knock-off super-hero was of no help at all. “He wouldn’t clear the scene, and we had a canine out there and he kept screwing up the scent,” said sergeant Gorno. “He said he wanted to help us look for the driver.”

“We didn’t want the dog to track Batman instead of the accident scene, and he was getting in the way of officers who had a job to do,” said the sergeant.

Williams was taken into custody where he was stripped of his Batman costume, as well as charged with resisting arrest and obstructing a police investigation.

Incidentally, this was not the first time Williams was busted for attempting to fight crime disguised as the caped crusader. Last year, police arrested him on the roof of a Michigan business armed with a police baton, a spray can of chemical irritant and a pair of sand-filled gloves. For that incident, Williams was sentenced to six months probation and forbidden to wear costumes for the duration of his punishment.

Williams is scheduled to appear back in court on October 18 to face the same charges.
