Sometimes parents can feel frustrated by the way their local school system is run, and wish there was something they could do about it. Here in Victoria, there is something you can do about it. The Victoria Independent School District is working on a community involvement project, and they want you to get involved. District leaders recently organized a brainstorming session on the subject, and a few questions were posed for consideration.

Victoria East High principal Greg Crockett and Victoria West High principal Debbie Crick asked two questions as a starting point for this discussion at the recent meeting. These questions deserve your utmost attention:

•  What are your ideas on how we can work together to create a strong educational community?

•  What are your ideas for improving student attendance?

From the discussion at the meeting, the district has identified seven topics for further review:•  School improvement.

•  Communication and partnerships.

•  Career preparation.

•  Compulsory attendance support.

•  Character education.

•  Mentoring and support services.

.  Education awareness for parents.

What are your thoughts on improving Victoria Schools?
