When Superintendant Shepard visited our studios last week to update our listeners about Victoria ISD's response to COVID-19, it was great news to hear about the plan to provide free lunches for children while the community does all it can to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Beginning Monday, March 23rd, curbside breakfast, and lunch will be offered to any child 18 and younger. In order to prevent overcrowding, several schools have been assigned as a designated distribution center.
It is important to know that while any child can get a free meal, that child must be present to receive a meal. USDA rules say meals can only be distributed to students who are on site. These rules may be relaxed in the coming days or weeks as actions are taken to make it even easier to provide food.
Drive-thru pick up will happen in the front drive of each elementary school designated as a distribution center. Parents and children must remain in their vehicles. All meals will be brought out to your family.
Right now, serving times are as follows: Breakfast will be served from 7:30 am to 9:30 am. Lunch will be served from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Times may change so we advise checking the Victoria ISD website and social media pages often.
