Sacha Baron Cohen is getting serious.

The creator and star of Da Ali G Show and Borat’s new project (his first for Netflix) is The Spy, a miniseries of six hourlong episodes starring Cohen as Eli Cohen, who becomes a spy in service to his country — only to find that it’s hard to ditch his new assumed identity. His double life also causes problems at home with his wife. ([Borat voice] “My wife.”) Noah Emmerich and Hadar Ratzon Rotem co-star with Cohen.

Okay, kidding aside, this is not a comedy. Watch the trailer for the series here:

Here’s the show’s synopsis, via Netflix:

THE SPY is inspired by the real-life story of former Mossad agent, Eli Cohen, who successfully goes undercover in Syria in the early 1960s. Cohen becomes close enough to ambitious military leaders and their rich friends to earn a game-changing level of trust about Syria’s biggest anti-Israel secret initiatives.

It looks intriguing. What’s a serious Sacha Baron Cohen show look like? I genuinely don’t know. The Spy will be available on Netflix on September 6.
