Thursday night in Victoria might have featured one of the hottest High School football playoff games in the state. The Shiner Commanches took on the Refugio Bobcats at Frost Bank Memorial Stadium.  The stadium's capacity is just over 10,000 and people were already lining up on the hills in the 1st quarter. It brought back memories of the old-school Stingaree/Raiders rivalry. Keep in mind that the combined enrollment of these two schools combined is 427, according to a Twitter post by Ashely Pickle. This just goes to prove that small-town High School Football is truly on another level.

Shiner put their fingerprints on this game early with an offensive explosion putting up 35 points in the first half of the game.   Brothers Doug and Dalton Brooks both put up big numbers to propel the Commanche offense. It brought back memories of the way they played during last year's State Championship game.  Final score: Shiner Commanches 55 Refugio Bobcats 14.  Congratulations to the Refugio Bobcats for a sensational season!

The Commanches are eyeing back-to-back State titles and will take on the winner of Timpson/Centerville in the State Semi-final game next weekend.  Timpson/Centerville will play tomorrow night at the neutral sight in Jacksonville Texas. The state championship game is scheduled for Wednesday, December 15th at 7 PM.  Shiner St. Paul (9-1) will take on Muenster Sacred Heart (9-4), 7 p.m. Friday in Waco in hopes of a TAPPS state title as well.
