Timothée Chalamet has become one of the more beloved actors of his young generation on the strength of his roles in coming-of-age films like Call Me By Your Name and Lady Bird. I guess technically The King is also about a guy’s journey into adulthood. But in this case the guy is Henry V. So, sort of a different thing.

That is the premise of Netflix’s The King, which is coming to the streaming service this fall. Chalamet plays Hal, who inherits the British throne and must learn to be king. It’s directed by David Michod (Animal KingdomWar Machine) and co-written by Michod and Joel Edgerton, who also appears in the film as Falstaff. Take a look at the trailer:

Here’s the film’s synopsis:

Hal (Timothée Chalamet), wayward prince and reluctant heir to the English throne, has turned his back on royal life and is living among the people. But when his tyrannical father dies, Hal is crowned King Henry V and is forced to embrace the life he had previously tried to escape. Now the young king must navigate the palace politics, chaos and war his father left behind, and the emotional strings of his past life - including his relationship with his closest friend and mentor, the ageing alcoholic knight, John Falstaff (Joel Edgerton). Directed by David Michôd and co-written by Michôd and Edgerton, THE KING co-stars Sean Harris, Ben Mendelsohn, Robert Pattinson, and Lily-Rose Depp.

The King premieres on Netflix and in select theaters this fall. It premieres at the Venice Film Festival in just a few days.
