When The Disaster Artist arrives in theaters this December, Tommy Wiseau will finally receive something akin to the notoriety he’s always wanted. Thanks to James Franco, the aspiring filmmaker behind what came to be known as the worst movie ever made will be perceived in a more sympathetic light. As the new trailer for The Disaster Artist promises, the world (or all the people who see this movie, anyway) will finally know the name Tommy Wiseau.

He will inevitably remain synonymous with The Room forever, but Wiseau can now attach another, much better film project to his name with The Disaster Artist. Unlike the unintentional notoriety he earned with his filmmaking effort, the new movie from director (and star) James Franco may give Wiseau some positive attention with this behind-the-scenes story of the making of The Room.

Franco portrays Wiseau as more of an ambitious, perhaps misguided eccentric than just some freak show curiosity. There’s something oddly sweet and borderline-poignant about the latest trailer (courtesy of THR), which skirts a lot of the jokes from the previous trailers to deliver a little more of the drama.

The Disaster Artist co-stars a roster of incredible talent, including Dave Franco, Alison Brie, Jacki Weaver, Megan Mullally, Zac Efron, Ari Graynor, Bob Odenkirk, Seth Rogen, and Bryan Cranston (as himself). It hits select theaters on December 1 before expanding nationwide on December 8.
