Texas Unemployment Rises Slightly but Still Better Than National Average
Texas has fared better than the rest of the nation in recent years when it comes to unemployment and still does, despite downturns in the oil industry.
According to a report from the Texas Workforce Commission, statewide unemployment rose to 4.8% in September, compared to 4.7% in August. Nationally, the jobless rate was 5% in September.
Officials say 206,800 jobs have been added in Texas so far this year. The report goes on to sat that the Austin-Round Rock area has shown the most job growth with an unemployment rate of just 3.5%, while the McAllen-Edinburgh-Mission area had the highest unemployment of 8%.
