The Hitman’s Bodyguard stars Ryan Reynolds as a protection agent hired to guard the life of an assassin who just happens to be his worst enemy. It’s the kind of situation that normally you’d only see in the most cliched fanfiction, but Reynolds and his co-star Samuel L. Jackson are so funny and have such a chemistry onscreen (at least as far as we can see from the trailers), that this might just work out perfectly. The new Red Band trailer certainly makes a case for it.

Much in the same way that I have always wondered who delivers mail to mailmen (if they live in their own district, are they allowed to deliver mail to themselves? is that a conflict of interest?), the writers of the new action-comedy The Hitman’s Bodyguard ponder who a career killer goes to when he finds himself a mark. Even professional assassins need a little muscle from time to time, and when one especially ill-tempered sunuvagun hires a body guard with a short fuse, violent egos clash with nose-crushing results.

The newest trailer for sci-fi horror film Life is probably its best yet. We already know the basic plot, thanks to the other trailers that have been released (scientists on a space station find a living organism floating through the void that turns out to be a not-so-friendly extraterrestrial monster), so this trailer can be as short and sweet as it wants, while giving us some more of that squicky human hand vs. gross alien tentacle action. Spoiler alert: the hand loses.

Isn’t it just like Ryan Reynolds to upstage a colleague? After listening to critics sing the praises of Logan for the past few weeks, fans around the country took their seats on Friday night ready to watch Hugh Jackman strap on his metal claws one last time. SXSW 2017 has officially found its closing night film, and with the addition of the upcoming sci-fi thriller Life, this year’s Film program has a proper beginning, middle and end. I totally understand why some people may be a little skeptical about Life. Despite the excellent cast, the basic premise is enough to make folks wonder if the film is nothing more than a cheap knock-off of some of its high-profile predecessors. Part of that is the challenge of working within an established genre, I guess. If you’re going to tell a story about dangerous confinement and uneasy alliances, you’re bound to bump up against at least a few movie cliches. Following its record-breaking and pleasantly surprising run at the box office, Deadpool is getting ready to invade your home on DVD and Blu-ray this May. We won’t get an unrated director’s cut of the Merc With a Mouth’s solo outing, and although bonus feature details are not yet available, you can go ahead and pre-order your very own copy of the anti-superhero’s hit film right now. The Merc With a Mouth’s first solo outing is primed for the biggest R-rated movie opening of all time, as well as the biggest opening for a film released in the month of February.

Deadpool hits theaters on Valentine’s Day weekend, offering some wildly violent and profane counter-programming to your typical romantic offerings, though the people at Fox have been doing their best to promote the love story aspect of the film. Two new promos have arrived online, offering a little something for everyone on this special holiday.

It’s fitting that Deadpool’s main super-power is his accelerated healing factor; you just can’t kill this guy. For years, they talked about making a Deadpool movie featuring Ryan Reynolds (who played a largely unrecognizable version of the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine). For years, Deadpool languished in development; long enough to kill most projects. But that damn healing factor kept Deadpool alive.
