Don’t say it, don’t think it. Doug Jones is coming to get you. STX Entertainment has released the new trailer for The Bye Bye Man, from the producers of Oculus and The Strangers.

The trailer pretty much hits all the horror beats, with sharp, sudden music cues and grotesque visuals provoking that clammy hands feeling. The titular Bye Bye Man (Jones) is a monster along the same lines as Slenderman: if you think about it, it only makes it stronger, and it seems to have pretty much unlimited powers, able to show up in rooms and take over phones and mostly just point menacingly at its future victims. The concept alone is pretty chilling — how do you fight something that only gets stronger if you even think about it?

It looks like the Bye Bye Man hunts down its victims and gives them horrifying hallucinations so it can take over their minds and force them to do... something terrible? Hurt their friends? The trailer is pretty vague on that detail. Regardless, it’s a cool concept, and it’ll be interesting to see how a film based around a Babadook-ish monster you can’t think about pans out. And if that isn’t enough to grab your attention, Faye Dunaway and Carrie-Ann Moss are also in this, for some reason.

STX is also the studio behind The Gift and The Boy, two horror/thriller films that played around with genre stereotypes, as well as Hardcore Henry, which looked like a generic action flick, but with a twist: the entire movie was shot from the point-of-view of the main character.

The Bye Bye Man is directed by Stacy Tile (Snoop Dogg’s Hood of Horror) and hits theaters on lucky January 13, 2017.
