The City of Victoria Municipal Court continues the “Open Court Day”  Citizens will not be arrested or detained during “Open Court Day”. Citizens must be checked in by 1:00 PM to be seen on the docket. The next date is March 23, 2020, at 1:00 pm.  Here is your chance to take care of any outstanding business.

The City of Victoria has issued this press release.

'On this day citizens do not have to be scheduled to come to court but may come in and speak to the judge about any changes in their situation or any arising issues regarding citations or citation agreements. The judge will re-consider any warrant(s) and revisit each financial situation. Citizens may be approved for a second chance opportunity to dispose of fines and fees.

If the judge makes a judicial finding that a defendant is indigent and unable to pay the fine and court costs, the judge may offer alternatives to the payment of a fine, such as allowing indigent defendants to perform community service. All community service plans must be for non-profit organizations and must be approved by the court.

In cases of severe financial hardship, the judge has the authority to decrease the fine or number of community service hours required depending on the severity of the defendant’s financial situation. In severe hardship situations, the judge may discharge all or part of the fine and court costs, pursuant to Article 45.0491, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.

Defendants who do not come in voluntarily to take care of their warrants are subject to arrest in any public place and their place of employment. Defendants who are arrested will be transported and booked into the Victoria County Jail.

The court would like to assist the community in understanding the full process of successfully handling your traffic citations to avoid warrants. If you have any questions regarding this, contact the City of Victoria Municipal Court at (361) 485-3050.'
