Thieves are everywhere these days and, the car your driving may be just what they're looking for to steal next. Obviously simple things like locking your doors and not leaving your keys in it are the first things you should do to protect your vehicle but, there's another way to discourage car thieves-VIN Etching.

When you have VIN etching on your vehicle, it makes your ride a lot less desirable, because then they have to replace all the windows and get rid of the glass. VIT etching may also get you an additional insurance discount. Best of all? You can get it done for free this weekend. The Victoria Police Department is putting on a free VIN etching event Saturday, December 13th from 9am-12 noon at The Master's House Church at 2105 N. Ben Jordan.

The registered owner must be present and, you also need to bring your driver's license, proof of insurance.

While you're there, the Victoria Civilian Police Academy Alumni will also be doing child fingerprinting services. This free service gives parents a document they can give to authorities to help return a missing child to their family.

For more information, contact the Victoria Police Department Crime Prevention Unit at 361-485-3808, or stop by their office in Victoria Mall, next to Chic-fil-A.
