I've seen some lopsided games in my day but nothing compares to the defensive nightmare that was the Texas Rangers vs. the New York Yankees game last night. I was switching between the Houston Astros vs. Anaheim Angels game and happen upon the Rangers game in the top of the 2nd inning where the score was tied at 5-5. Bare in mind they were in the 2nd inning about an hour after the game started.

It was a pitching nightmare. Both pitchers were pulled and replaced by time the 2nd inning rolled around. The Rangers scoring 5 runs in the top of the first with the Yankees in hot pursuit scoring 11 in the 2nd inning alone....aided by a Chris Young grand slam in the top of the 3rd which made the score 15-5 before the 3rd inning was over.

Sadly that isn't where the scoring stopped as the Yankees would go on to tack on 6 more run to make the final score a laughable 21-5. The 2nd inning by the way, lasted 40 minutes and saw the Yankees send 15 men to the plate.

That is not something you want to see from your pitching staff this late in the season. We're already past the All Star break and if you want to stay in contention, you'd better start playing with a little more spark than we saw from the Rangers last night.

By the way, the Astros game ended with the Stros' coming out on top of the Angels 10-5 to secure a tie with Anaheim among the top of the AL West. I love this time of year in baseball.
