It looks like we may all be eating frozen dinners tonight y'all. No brisket or ribs from Mumphords are on the menu until further notice. Early this morning, the delicious and local favorite Mumphords BBQ experienced some turbulence.

Around 8 am the BBQ joint had more than smoke coming from the pit. According to Crossroads Today, workers noticed irregular smoke and a small fire at the restaurant's corner. They quickly used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames before the fire department arrived.

Mumphord's have already updated their Facebook with a status informing their customers that they will be closed until further notice due to the fire. However, they mentioned the damage was minor, so hopefully, they will be back on their feet and running soon!

Until then, maybe we can try to attempt our own BBQ. Here are some tips and tricks to up your game when making BBQ; check them out and get ready to impress your guests.

    Marinate It

You got options here but choose something because nobody wants to bite off a piece of rubber or jerky. You can opt for some acidic marinades by adding a dash of lemon or apple cider vinegar or go for some fruits like pineapples, papayas, or kiwis that have an enzyme that helps break down the meat and make it nice and tender.

    Cut Against the Grain

You want tender?- cut against the grain. You are basically cutting against the fibers, which are essentially holding the muscles together. So if you cut against them, you are breaking them and making the meat more tender to chew.

    Give It Some Time

Whoa there, before you even pick up that knife to begin any type of slicing and dicing, give that slab of protein a little bit of time. Let the meat cool down a bit, or all those delicious juices are going to get squooshed out in a matter of seconds.
