A bipartisan bill to allow some additional medicinal use of marijuana in the state of Texas has passed both the House and Senate and now will be sent to the Governor for approval.

The new bill adds more medical conditions that the treatment can be used for including terminal cancer, autism, ALS, and all seizure disorders like Parkinson's and Huntington's disease. A previous Compassionate Use program only allowed physicians to prescribe low-THC cannabis for intractable epilepsy patients. This proposed bill would not only expand the disorders that could be treated but would also reduce the number of medical specialists necessary to authorize prescriptions.

House Bill 3703 doesn't go far enough, say some proponents of medical use of marijuana because it doesn't address other debilitating conditions that need to be able to use the whole plant.

If the Governor signs the bill, the law would go into effect on September 1st.
