Before moving to Victoria, Texas at the start of the year I have spent the last 4 years living up in Bell County down the road from Fort Hood. Seeing Vanessa Guillen's family standing in Washington D.C. yesterday was heartbreaking. Especially after I think of all the times I have been in the area surrounding Fort Hood and am familiar with the area in which remains have been found over the last several days.

Both Donkeeboy and Donkeemom live in the city of Houston which is not far at all from the area of south Texas where Vanessa grew up. They have painted a mural in tribute to Vanessa near the Taqueria Del Sol on Park Place which is pretty close to the Gulf Freeway. ABC13.com reports this is just down the road from the High School that Guillen graduated from, Cesar Chavez High School. Vanessa's old school posted a touching note to her online.

Donkeeboy gave a statement to ABC13 on Wednesday saying, "It's important for people to understand that this was cruel and unjust and just horrible. And hopefully, you know, we can all come together and voice our opinions and speak up and stop the injustices and horrible things that happened in the world."
