Harry Nilsson’s 1971 animated movie The Point will be re-released next year on Blu-ray to mark its parent album’s 50th anniversary.

Released in 1970, The Point! LP told the story of Oblio, a round-headed boy who lives among a community of conically headed people and is eventually cast out for being different. The film, narrated by Ringo Starr and featuring The Brady Bunch's Mike Lookinland as the voice of Oblio, was aired on ABC in February 1971.

“I was on acid, and I looked at the trees and realized all the leaves came to points and even the branches came to points,” Nilsson once said of the concept. “I thought, ‘Oh! Everything has a point, and even if it doesn’t, there’s a point to it.”

MVD managed to track down a film print of the movie after failing to locate the original negative. “Considering the condition of the elements we had, while a complete restoration proved to be unfeasible, the end result is the best the film has ever looked,” the company’s Eric D. Wilkinson said in a statement. “We are proud to give fans and collectors the best edition on disc and digital that has ever been created for this classic animated film.”

The Point will be released on Feb. 11 in HD on Blu-Ray, with 5.1 surround sound and bonus material including interviews with Lookinland and Nilsson’s son, Kiefo, who also worked on his father’s posthumous album, Losst and Found, which arrives on Nov. 22.
