Governor Abbott Holds A Live Meeting Concerning Texas COVID Spike

Victoria County COVID-19 cases continue to rise. In fact, according to the Victoria Health Department's latest report that you can read here, we have a new record high with a total of 49 new cases of COVID-19 reported throughout the weekend.

This is true for many areas in Texas as we reach our 10th day of record high cases, leading Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to host a live meeting today at 2 pm to address the need for Texas to continue to help flatten the curve.

Townsquare Media had an opportunity to speak to a Victoria Health Department official this morning who feels the communities lax with proper social distancing is the greatest issue and the number one  biggest contributor to the case increase. They offered that it does NOT appear that an increase in testing was the biggest contributor and encourages Victorian's to continue to practice social distancing, wear a mask in public and wash their hands frequently offering it's better to be "SAFE THAN SORRY."

It was here we learned that Gov. Abbott was scheduled to address the public live at 2p.

"COVID hasn't gone away but neither has our ability to stop the spread." Gov. Abbott offers. Gov. Abbott encouraged EVERYONE to wear masks at all times in public as well as practicing social distancing, not going out when you don't feel well AND to continue to wash your hands often.

"COVID-19 is now spreading in Texas at an unreasonable rate. All Texans MUST follow all of the protocols we know, like social distancing and wearing masks." Gov. Abbott warns.

The Victoria Health Department intends to post an updated FAQ page to its Facebook site within the next 24 hours after gaining new direction and guidance from Gov. Abbott's live conference.
