Houston city officials are anticipating upwards of ten thousand mourners today for the public visitation of George Perry Floyd, Jr. whose death during an arrest in Minneapolis on May 25th has sparked nationwide protests throughout the United States.

The viewing which is open to the public will take place at Fountain of Praise Church in Houston, Texas. Dr. Remus Wright and co-pastor 1st Lady Mia Wright of Fountain of Praise Church are the spiritual leaders of some of George Floy's relatives.

Although George was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, George, known as " Perry" to friends and family grew up in Cuney Homes, in the Third Ward of Houston, Texas. Beginning in 1994, Goerge performed as a rapper in Houston, using the stage name "Big Floyd" and performed in the Houston hip hop group, Screwed Up Click. According to Wikipedia, " Floyd has been called an early contributor to the development of Houston's hip-hop scene." In 2014, Floyd moved to Minneapolis Minnesota. George Floyd had five children, two of whom still reside in Houston, ages 6 and 22 as well as an adult son who lives in Bryan, Texas.

The public is invited to attend the visitation from noon to 6 pm today. To comply with social distancing guidelines, guests will only be allowed to stay inside for no more than ten minutes after the viewing, and according to CNN, " guests must wear a mask and gloves, but casual attire will be permitted."

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden is expected today in Houston to meet privately with Goerge Floyd's family.

Goerge Floyd's funeral will be a private ceremony, on Tuesday, June 9th, however, it will be streamed on The Fountain of Praise Church website. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and actor Jamie Foxx are among the guests.
