The Victoria Generals handled the Acadiana Cane Cutters 12-5 last night at Riverside Stadium to advance to the Texas Collegiate League Championship. It's the 4th time in the last 5 years the Generals have made it to the championship series.

The Generals jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning off of Cane Cutters’ ace pitcher Jake Winston.  The Generals recorded six straight hits with two outs in the inning.  Romeo Cortina nailed a double down the left field line and came into score on a David Paiz, Jr. single up the middle.  Jordan Camel then smoked a double into the left-centerfield gap to bring Paiz in all the way from first base.  J.D. Stinnett then drilled a pitch past the Cane Cutter’s second baseman to plate Camel.  Hayden Vesely singled to left fieldand J.D. Arrowood lined a shot to left to score Stinnett to cap the inning.

Jacob Hubert made it 5-0 with an RBI single to right field to score Stinnett in the third inning.

In the fourth, Cortina walked, stole second, advanced to third on an error, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Camel.

The Cane Cutters pitching staff helped the Generals out in the bottom of the sixth inning.  After loading the bases on two walks and a hit-by-pitch, Hayden Vesely drew a walk to score Paiz.  J.D. Arrowood then grounded into a fielder’s choice, but an error on the throw to the plate was wide allowing Camel to score.  Hubert, J.B. Moss, and Cortina the each drew walks with the bases loaded to make the score 11-0 in favor of the Generals.

The Cane Cutters scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to cut the Generals lead to 11-5.  The Generals added their final run in the bottom of the eighth on a Frank Cloutier sac fly to score Hubert to make the final score 12-5.

Kyle Keller picked up the win for the Generals.  Keller tossed six plus innings, allowing just three runs (two earned) on six hits with five strikeouts.  Juan Cortina allowed two runs on one hit in one inning.  Argenis Angulo tossed the final two innings without allowing a run or a hit.

Cortina, Paiz, and Hubert each had two hits in the game for the Generals.

The Generals will host the Brazos Valley Bombers in the first game of the TCL Championship Series tonight at 7:05 at Riverside Stadium in Victoria.  Game two will be played tomorrow night night in Bryan, and if a third game is needed in the three-game series, it will be played in Bryan on Tuesday night.
