Former 106.9 Air Personality Dies in Christmas House Fire
There was some sad news when we came back to work after Christmas this week, former 106.9 air personality Allen Harrison McGee died in a house fire on Christmas morning. He was known by many names, Allen Harrison, Hairy Allison, and Crash, just to name a few. When I started here back in 1996, Allen was our morning guy, and he was a talent that you just don't find too often in this business. Allen had an amazing natural ability to communicate on the air, with great humor, knowledge, and no pretentiousness whatsoever. His knowledge of music, regardless of genre, always amazed me. His ability to relate to people was one of his great qualities too.
One of the first places I lived was in the same apartment complex as Allen, and not only was he always a great father to his kids, but he was a great friend to my kids too. Despite the fact that he had left Victoria several years ago, we still kept in touch, and people still ask about him, and recall how much they loved him on the air. Allen will always be remembered fondly his friends and former co-workers.
