It hasn't been great for the Victoria Generals of late, losing a number of recent games early in the 2nd half of the Texas Collegiate League season, and now the team's division was beaten in the league All-Star game 11-8.

The Victoria Generals sent seven players to the 2013 TCL All-Star game at Driller Park in Kilgore last night, as part of the West squad, also represented by the Brazos Valley Bombers, and Texas Marshals.  East teams are the Acadiana Cane Cutters, East Texas Pump Jacks, and Woodlands Strykers.

Generals outfielder Romeo Cortina walked and stole a base in the top of the first inning. Cortina recorded an RBI groundout in the third inning to score Blake Kopetsky of the Bombers in his second at bat.

Trey Wall pitched the fourth inning for the West and gave up three runs (two earned) on one hit with three walks.

Juan Cortina tossed a scoreless sixth inning recording two fly outs and a ground out.
Jacob Hubert was hit by a pitch and David Paiz, Jr. singled in the seventh inning.  Both came into score on a Kopetsky double.

Generals closer Kaleb Keith allowed one unearned run in the bottom of the ninth inning on two hits.

J.B. Moss went 0-for-3 in the game with two strikeouts.

Ty Marlow of the East Texas Pump Jacks was named the game’s MVP going 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.  Marlow also pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

Kevin Santana of the Woodlands Strykers won the Home Run Derby.  David Paiz, Jr. represented the Generals in the derby and hit one home run in the first round.

The Generals return to action tomorrow night as they host the East Texas Pump Jacks at 7:05pm at Riverside Stadium in Victoria.  Thursday night is VC Night at the Ballpark.  All students, faculty, and staff that show a VC ID card at the gate will receive $2 off general admission tickets.  It is also Thirsty Thursday presented by Beef ‘O’ Brady’s with $1 draft beer on the party deck all game long.
