The historical action Greg Abbott has done is making pro-choicers jump for joy. The Act would ensure no harm is done to unborn children in Texas. The Heartbeat Act is celebrated by Texans who believe it is not the choice of the woman carrying the child to abort it.

This Act gives a voice to a fetus who otherwise could not speak for itself. It is for the greater good and it aligns with many of the supporter's religious values. The Heartbeat Act is within its constitutional rights because it still allows a woman up to six weeks after insemination to receive an abortion.

The Heartbeat Act is incredibly insensitive and unconstitutional. The Act strips women of their rights over their very own bodies and reverses a monumental case, Wade v. Roe.

The Act doesn't consider how many children will be brought into this world and suffer abuse, neglect, poverty, and so much more. This is going to fuel the already broken foster system and create so much damage to all of those involved.

Yes, the Act has not eliminated abortions all together but it only allows a 6-week window for women. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told CNN, "I'm sorry that we have to break down biology 101 on national television, but in case no one has informed him before in his life, 6 weeks pregnant means 2 weeks late for your period," she said. "And 2 weeks late for your period for any person with a menstrual cycle, can happen if you're stressed, if your diet changes, or for really no reason at all. So you don't have 6 weeks." Many women have no idea they are even pregnant that early on.

$10,000 Incentive

One of the most debated portions of the Act is not the right to choose but it is the monetary persuasion. SB 87 creates a big incentive by allowing citizens to report violations and create lawsuits for up $10,000 against those who commit the abortion or aid and abet, that can even include the driver who knowingly took the woman to get an abortion after the 6-week deadline.

In Conclusion

It is safe to say this is not over and done with. many lawsuits against the Act are coming and progressing so only time will tell if it will stay in law, be revoked, or altered in any way. What we do know is this was a big move for Texas.
