The Board of Directors for Turkeyfest in Cuero has announced its decision to postpone the October event in the best interest of public safety.

In a story shared by the Victoria Advocate, the board's decision was made known early Monday afternoon to cancel the event due to the coronavirus pandemic. It's no secret that COVID-19 numbers have been difficult to slow in the month of July and Turkeyfest falls in line with Bootfest and Sandfest and many of the other Crossroad area events to postpone instead of gather communities together.

Turkeyfest.org had the event scheduled for October 9th - 11th with the traditional Great Gobbler Gallop turkey race, parade, and live entertainment all ready to go. Turkeyfest board president Trent Kainer told the advocate there is a possibility that later in the year Cuero may schedule a street dance or other activities if it is safe to do so. There is also some talk of taking the Great Gobbler Gallop and having a virtual race. While much of this is up in the air due to coronavirus, the city will make any announcements once it is safe to do so.

Turkeys and Cuero go way back to the early 1900s and Turkeyfest.org is a great place to find out all about this festival including some great Texas history lessons from DeWitt county like the video below.
