This might be the most anticipated civic alert Victorians have read in a while!

"Public Works prepares for a record-breaking year of street projects."

After endless hours of meetings, calculations, budgets, number crunching, planning, more planning, and more meetings, the City of Victoria has just released their latest civic alert announcing that the City of Victoria's 2022 fiscal budget includes record-breaking repairs for streets in the community.

As a citizen of Victoria, I am quite proud of our city council members.

I've often had the privilege of meeting with city officials for various topics of conversations, on and off the mic, and I've always gotten the impression that our council clearly hears our concerns about street repair, so much so, that I'm not surprised to see that this year's fiscal budget includes the tripling of funding for residential street repair.

That's right, the fiscal budget includes triple the funding for street repair from previous years.

According to the City of Victoria civic alert which you read in its entirety here, " The City’s Capital Improvement Plan which is the portion of the budget that covers streets, utilities and other large infrastructure projects includes $34.37 million for the fiscal year 2022, the largest single-year amount in the City’s history and a $10 million increase from the fiscal year 2021."

You're likely wondering which Victoria neighborhoods or Victoria streets are covered in the new record-breaking budget?

North Heights Phase VII Reconstruction: The final phase of the seven-year reconstruction of the North Heights subdivision will address Nueces Street between Navarro Street and Laurent Street

Ben Wilson Corridor Project: This project will feature reconstruction, drainage improvements, landscaping, and improved pedestrian access to convert the Ben Wilson corridor into an entryway to the University of Houston-Victoria.

Mill and Overlay: The City will repave Airline Road from Sam Houston Drive to Stockbauer Drive and Mockingbird Lane from Laurent Street to Navarro Street.

Residential Street Program (maintenance projects): Some neighborhood streets that are in good condition will receive a protective seal coating to avoid costly repairs later.
