When I was  kid, one of my dreams was to be a police officer. I think the TV show Adam 12 was a big influence. Of course, I also wanted to be an astronaut, cowboy, soldier and a member of the Impossible Missions Force. Fortunately for society, I ended up with a career that wouldn't really put anybody in danger in radio.

Police officers do a lot that's for sure, and here in Victoria, they are constantly going above and beyond the call of duty. This week, we honor law enforcement officers across the country during National Police Week.

October 1st, 1962 was the date when President John F. Kennedy signed into law May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Update: Due to the amount of rainfall we've had recently, the Memorial Service will be held at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts, located at 214 N. Main in Victoria, Friday (May 15) at 9:00am.

There will be a special ceremony to honor those that have given their lives in the line of duty.  Area law enforcement agencies will be there, as a roll call of fallen officers is read, and a memorial wreath is laid. Blue ribbons are available to anyone who wants to show their support. Just stop by the Police Department's Records section at 105 W. Juan Linn, the Police Sub-Station in Victoria mall, or the Victoria County Sheriff's Office at 101 N. Glass.
