If you are in Calhoun County for Independence Day, there are plenty of activities to celebrate the occasion, and get into the patriotic spirit.

You can really get into the spirit of Independence Day starting with a reading of the Declaration of Independence at Faye Bauer Sterling Park. The reading will be by Port Lavaca's own Ed Campbell, a descendant of one of the actual signers of the historic document. The reading is scheduled for July 4th at 10am.

Fireworks will light up the sky this weekend in Port O'Connor and Point Comfort. In Port O'Connor, they get underway at dusk at King Fisher Front Beach Park.

In Point Comfort, activities begin at 6pm on Saturday, July 7th in Point Comfort City Park with the pool open for free, and fireworks set for 9pm, or as soon as it gets dark enough. Concessions will be available.

So, whether you want fireworks on the 4th in Victoria, or this Saturday in Calhoun County, there's plenty to choose from for Independence Day.
