Armed Protester Shot During BLM March in Austin

A shooting took place in Austin on Saturday evening during a BLM protest that claimed the life of 28-year-old Garrett Foster.

Crowds had gathered at 4th Street and Congress according to reports when a vehicle tried to drive down a street that was overcome by protestors. As the vehicle tried to get passed demonstrators, Foster approached the driver's side window of the vehicle pointing his AK-47 assault rifle at the driver according to one account. Others say Foster only pointed his gun at the vehicle.

In Texas, people don't take kindly to someone walking up to their car and pointing an assault rifle at them. The driver of the vehicle reportedly shot Foster, drove away from the area, then called 9-1-1 to report what happened. The driver of the vehicle then turned themselves in to speak with the police about what happened. This is one of the only things on the record because the police spoke with that individual. They don't have a minute by minute account of what happened on the ground at the shooting. Yet.

During the police interview with the driver, the individual showed the police their license for the handgun and gave a statement saying they fired at Foster only after having a gun pointed at them. The investigation is still ongoing.

Last night a vigil was held in Austin for Foster. A crowd gathered to place flowers at the corner of 4th and Congress. Our prayers go out to the family of Foster and his friends who attended with him only to have the night to come to such a tragic end. A GoFundMe page is said to have raised $100,000 in about 24 hours for Foster.
