A song like Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe' is called an earworm for the insidious way it tunnels into your brain and gets stuck inside your head.

The medical term for this is tinnitus, which is a legitimate condition that causes a sufferer to hallucinate songs in their head on an endless loop.

Susan Root has an extreme cause of tinnitus. And the song that the 63-year old from England can't stop hearing? 'How Much Is That Doggie In The Window?' (You now, the one with the waggly tail.)

For the past three years the Patti Page classic has been making Root's life miserable. When she occasionally gets a reprieve from the song, another tune -- usually 'God Save the Queen,' 'Happy Birthday,' or 'Auld Lang Syne' -- takes its place.

According to experts, tinnitus sufferers generally hear a song from their childhood and, indeed, 'How Much Is That Doggie In The Window' was Root's favorite song growing up.

Root says the auditory hallucinations are so strong that they often drone out the voice of her husband.

While this could be appealing in certain situations, overall Root finds the condition to be crippling. "I've come to accept that I'm probably going to be stuck with this hellish condition for the rest of my life," she said after a hearing aid she had implanted didn't solve the problem.

If you had to have one song stuck in your head for the rest of your life, what would it be?
