Sure, we have our share of crime in Victoria. I've always thought we lived in a pretty safe city so, I was surprised to see a statistic from the website NeighborhoodScout that said at a rate of 41 crimes per 1,000 people, we are actually among the cities with the highest crime rates in the nation. The report goes on to say that in comparison with other cities of similar size, we're significantly higher than average.

Where are Victoria's Most dangerous neighborhoods? According to the statistics, the city center (downtown area) is the most dangerous with the Houston Highway/N. Ben Wilson area right behind.

How about the safest neighborhoods? According to the report, that would be the Nursery/Fordtran area, followed by the N. Navarro/Glascow area.

While we do have our share of violent crime, NeighborhoodScout says a large portion of our crime is property crime, including burglary, larceny, auto theft, and arson. In Victoria, your chance of becoming a victim of a property crime is one in 27, which is a rate of 37 per one thousand population.

You can read the full report here.

So, there you have it. Let's all make a concerted effort to look out for each other and lower these numbers. Together, we can make Victoria a much safer place for all of us!
