Yesterday, Texans fans were probably ready to shut the TV off before the first quarter even ended. This season is almost halfway done and even at 2-5, the Texans are 2nd in the AFC South division. But that's not because of good play...it's because the division also includes Indianapolis (who is having their own problems), Tennessee, and Jacksonville....which should be self explanatory as to why it's not a notoriously strong division.

So what can the Texans do different? What do they need to do to win? Well, for starters get rid of Ryan Mallett. The guy is toxic and needs to be away from other players. He did not travel with the team to Miami this past weekend on the charter flight because he "was caught in traffic". So instead he paid to fly commercially. Funny, close to 100 people with the team from all over the city of Houston made it to the airport on time but Mallett just couldn't do it. This is the same guy who missed a meeting with the Carolina Panthers at the 2011 NFL Combine so he could sleep in because he had been out the night before partying. And let's not forget shortly after losing his starting job to Brian Hoyer, Mallett missed a team practice because he "overslept". The guy's got all the natural talent in the world...just not the drive or ambition to improve on it and become a decent QB.

Secondly, get rid of Arian Foster. I know, I know he's been your franchise running back for awhile now but let's face it....he's a liability. Always prone to the most severe injuries with the slightest movement. Case and point....Yesterday's game. He tore his Achilles tendon when he pushed off and started running. Yeah, he tore his tendon BEGINNING to run. He wasn't even running at half speed yet. This after tearing his groin muscle in preseason changing directions while running. Isn't that what running backs do? Run and change direction? If you can't even do that without giving yourself a season ending injury (two years in a row) I suggest moving on from him.

Last.....figure out the QB situation. Brian Hoyer isn't a bad quarterback but he belongs on the bench backing up an elite QB or if nothing else, a young draft pick. The Texans need to either aggressively go after a good QB (Drew Brees, Matt Ryan caliber), or draft a QB first in the upcoming draft and build an offense around him. I know they're gun shy about doing that after the fiasco that was David Carr but honestly...put a QB in that can make the big plays down field, scramble for yards and fire up this offense and the rest will take care of itself.

And somebody needs to work on that secondary. Why did they ever get rid of Wade Wilson?

All this is my opinion of course. Yours may vary but even so everyone can agree that the Texans are one of the most expensive teams in the NFL to see in person and if they continue to play like they are there won't be anybody to fill those seats at NRG Stadium. Spend the money you're making off your fans Bob McNair before you have no fans left.

Just a thought.
