Nothing lets you know you've got a weird "tendency" like announcing it on the radio. So this morning we were talking about what we were giving up for Lent. I didn't think about the repercussions of being totally honest and without enough time to make something less revealing up when JP asked me what I was giving up for Lent I said "salt". Safe enough. But THEN he immediately asked me "You like salt on your basket of chips...your margarita?"

And before I could stop myself, I blurted out, "Oh I'll put a salt rim on my iced tea."

Now a LOT of people I know choose to give up sugary stuff. I hear tons of friends are giving up chocolate, ice cream, candy, dessert, etc. etc. As much as I enjoy ice cream, I hardly think of giving it up as a sacrifice... but we all have our vices, right? My vice just happens to be salt. I LOVE IT.

Since I've already shared my unusual inclination I might as well tell you when I knew I had a problem. I knew I might have a problem with salt when out feeding cows once with my husband, he laid out a " salt lick" for his animals and even though it was new it wasn't wrapped in plastic, he had pulled it out of its a cardboard box and... I went ahead and tasted it anyway. I couldn't help myself.

The salt lick did not disappoint. Neither does rock salt ( my favorite part of making ice cream) nor pink Himalayan salt (my favorite part of cooking).

As a side note, salt licks are a good source of iron and zinc. Just saying.

So now that I've admitted that I've licked a cowlick, adding a rim of salt on my glass of ice tea isn't so weird after all is it?

Sigh. It's going to be a loooong 40 days.
