Victoria Generals Sweep Woodlands Strykers

Victoria Generals

It was a productive weekend for the Victoria Generals in Texas Collegiate League baseball action, with a sweep of the Woodlands Strykers.

The Generals picked up the win last night at Riverside Stadium 7-3 win at Riverside Stadium, with Victoria native Jordan Pacheco getting his first start of the season and turned in a solid outing.

Pacheco allowed two runs in the first inning on four hits as the Strykers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Allowing only 1 more hit through the next 4 innings, Pacheco finished the game with six strikeouts in five innings.
The Generals offense got things rolling in the fifth inning when Alex Klonowski led off with a walk, J.D. Stinnett was hit by a pitch, and J.B. Moss loaded the bases on a walk.  After a Strykers pitching change, Brandon Hannon drilled an RBI single to right field. Stinnett came into score later in the inning on an RBI fielder’s choice by Frank Cloutier.

The Strykers retook the lead in the sixth off of Generals relief pitcher Trey Wall.  The run was unearned after Moss committed a two-base error early in the inning in right field.

The Generals responded in the bottom of the frame, once again with the help of the Stryker’s pitching staff.  Aaron Morgan led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a single by Brett Hoffman.  Morgan and Hoffman advanced on a wild pitch before a passed ball allowed Morgan to score to tie the game at 3-3.

After another pitching change, Moss walked before Brandon Hannon was issued a free pass to give the Generals a 4-3 advantage.  Klonowski came into score on a wild pitch and Hannon scored on a sacrifice fly by Cloutier to give the Generals a 6-3 lead.

The Generals added an insurance run in the seventh inning as Klonowski and Mac Seibert executed a double steal to make it 7-3.

Wall picked up the win in relief for the Generals, allowing just one run on one hit in two innings with four strikeouts.  Juan Cortina pitched two scoreless innings to close out the game on the mound for the Generals.

Hannon led the Generals at the plate, picking up two of the team’s four hits in the game.  He went 2-for-2 with three walks, two RBIs, and a stolen base.

With the win, the Generals improve to 8-2 on the season and the Strykers fell to 2-7.

The Generals will have today off, as they get ready for the Acadiana Cane Cutters at Riverside tomorrow night. It’s also Free Ticket Tuesday presented by the University of Houston-Victoria, when all fans will get in for free, courtesy of UHV.
