We hear about scams all the time but here's a new one, at least for me. It's called 'bank jugging.' I had never heard the term before, but it involves a suspect watching a customer leave a bank with an envelope or a package that they hope contains cash. The suspect then follows the victim looking for an opportunity to break into the victim's vehicle to take the cash.

According to Victoria Police, the crime has happened here, in some cases when the victim stopped at restaurant or store after visiting the bank. Authorities say the perpetrators may use rental cars or temporary paper license plates on their vehicle, and they recommend calling 911 if you see a suspicious person or vehicle.

Police say the best way to avoid being a victim of jugging is to go directly to your destination after visiting the bank or ATM, and the one that goes without saying, never leave cash or valuables in your vehicle.
