Nationally syndicated radio show ‘InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History’s Greatest Rock Bands’ will take a look back at Van Halen‘s early days in their latest episode. With the new album ‘A Different Kind of Truth’ out now, the show uses interviews with founding band members to offer a peek into their mindset at this particular formative era.

Even though ‘A Different Kind of Truth’ marks the first album without Michael Anthony’s rhythmic work and signature vocal harmonies, he’s obviously a prime source of information about this era. For example, it’s worth noting that finances and getting rich did not top the band’s priority list at the time.

“We weren’t really thinking about the money at the time,” Anthony, now strumming along in Chickenfoot with David Lee Roth’s replacement Sammy Hagar, recalled. “I think we were having so much fun doing what we were doing. As long as I had a roof over my head, I didn’t care. They (Warner Bros.) were letting us record and go out and play our music and that was all we cared about.”

Eddie and Alex Van Halen and Roth also look back on those rebellious hellion years during the special. InTheStudio is syndicated on over 50 radio stations throughout North America. The Van Halen edition of the InTheStudio program will air this week, and you can listen to it right here.
