One of Los Angeles’ most famous studios is the subject of a documentary directed and produced by Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters. ‘Sound City‘ will tell the distinguished history of the studio with some help from some classic rockers who made some of their most famous works there.

Tom Petty, John Fogerty and Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac are featured in the newest trailer for the film, which does not yet have a release date. The clip centers on the special characteristics of both the sound of the room and the Neve 8028 console in the control room.

“It’s tube-driven, it’s analog,” said Fogerty. “The bass sounds better, the human voice sounds better.” Fleetwood agrees. “That board, that room…That is Sound City.”

Grohl loved the Neve 8028 so much that, upon Sound City’s closing in 2011, he bought the board and installed it at his home studio. His association with Sound City goes back to 1991, when Nirvana recorded their groundbreaking alternative album, ‘Nevermind.’

Among the most famous names who have recorded at Sound City are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Young, Cheap Trick, Johnny Cash, Guns N’ Roses, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails and Metallica.
