Maybe this baseball thing wasn't such a bad idea, after all.

Tim Tebow hit a home run on his first pitch he saw in his first at-bat during an instructional league on Wednesday.

Tebow, 29, is playing with the Mets and bashed the homer against the Cardinals in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

And you'd better believe the former Heisman Trophy winner loved going yard:

Before you start anointing Tebow -- who hasn't played organized baseball since he was in high school in 2005 -- the next Mickey Mantle, just remember he grounded out in his next at-bat and that the competition is against low minor league ball talent, so let's not just starting making his bust for a plaque in Cooperstown just yet.

But, still, a home run on the first pitch. That's pretty amazing, so maybe he's just the latest in a long line of Amazin' Mets.
