In addition to being a musician,  drummer Riley Breckenridge is a baseball fan. He’s not just a casual observer, but a hardcore fanatic who even has a baseball related blog called Productive Outs. Breckenridge has now combined his two loves by forming a baseball-themed grindcore band.

are named after Los Angeles Dodgers rookie phenom Yasiel Puig. The Cuban defector was called up to the majors at the beginning of June and made an instant and powerful impact, which is something I’m sure Puig Destroyer hope to emulate. The band’s lineup includes Mike Minnick (Curl Up & Die), Ian Miller and Jon Howell (Kowloon Walled City) and Breckenridge.

On his non-baseball blog, Breckenridge posted the following about the band: “We’ve got basic tracking done for our debut EP, and we should have a track from said EP fairly soon. Please stay tuned for updates/tunes. The roughs I’ve heard are ridiculously awesome and fun and raw as all hell. Kinda like Yasiel Puig. We’re all very excited and hope that you are too.”

Breckenridge is a prolific scribe, also writing a weekly column for Getting Blanked called “The Battle of Los Angeles” and a bi-weekly column for PureVolume called “Everything In Its Right Place“. He has more time to devote to writing and projects like Puig Destroyer because Thrice are currently on an indefinite hiatus, as detailed in the story below:
