Now that Joe Walsh has officially wrapped up ‘Analog Man,’ his first album of new solo material in 20 years, he’s planning to release it in May or June.

While he recorded the album digitally, he’s making a very intentional statement with his choice of an album title.

“Back when it was all analog, we used to go in the studio, and studios had knobs. We used to turn knobs and say, ‘let’s see what this does.’ Now, we have a mouse. We [the members of the Eagles] spend hours yelling at our computers. My son comes in and he says, ‘Dad, you’re really stupid.’”

Current pop culture is also pretty stupid from Walsh’s point of view as he looks at ‘The Kardashians,’ dubbing it “24 hour streaming bulls–t. That’s your pop culture today.”

“Reality has a lot of…..crummy stuff in it. And people have decided to go into the virtual world. I was at a Lakers game last night, and everybody there was texting. Now and then they’d look up and check the score.”

In a previous conversation with Ultimate Classic Rock, he elaborated further regarding the album and said that the experience of working with fellow “analog man” Jeff Lynne was “amazing.” He says “it was great to get together as two veterans and compare notes.

“I know in the past, I’ve had screwy album titles, but I decided to call it ‘Analog Man.’ Because, you know, my generation of musicians, we grew up analog, and now it’s a digital world. We had to learn it, you know? Everything’s totally different. There’s no record companies — who knew that would happen? They were so powerful when I was young!”

As the Eagles celebrate 40 years this year, Walsh says that it’s probable that fans will get to see a “retrospective show” from the group to mark the occasion. With ‘Analog Man’ tentatively plotted for a mid-year release, it looks like Joe Walsh will be very busy this year!
