The Beastie Boys’ ‘Sabotage’ Video Gets the ‘Sesame Street’ Treatment in New Mashup

A fan known as Mylo the Cat has given the Beastie Boys classic “Sabotage” video just the makeover it needed — if you were an ’80s kid: a scene-for-scene recreation of the video using existing Sesame Street footage.

The mash-up master Mylo the Cat, also known as Adam Schleichkorn, has given a number of other videos the Sesame Street treatment, garnering millions of YouTube views. This time, he took a stab at recreating the Spike Jonze-directed video using footage from 1985’s Follow That Bird.

In Follow That Bird, a social worker is after Big Bird, who goes on the lam while other Sesame Street characters cross the country on rescue mission. Mylo’s version of the video for the 1994 Ill Communication hit uses clips from the movie to create a video spoofing ’70s crime dramas, as Jonze did with the original. The mashup introduces characters like “the Count as Cochese,” “Oscar the Grouch as Bobby, the Rookie” and “Super Grover as the Chief.”

The video concludes with a shoutout to the late Adam “MCA” Yauch. After Yauch’s death in 2012, a filmmaker recreated the video using children.

“The original ‘Sabotage’ music video is without a doubt, one of the greatest of all time,” Schleichkorn posted on YouTube. “So I knew I couldn’t do a regular old lip sync video, I had to bring it! RIP MCA.”

Mylo has also created what he calls “Nineties Hip-Hop Muppet Mash-Ups” for the Beastie Boys’ “So What’cha Want,” as well as for Warren G.’s “Regulate” and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony‘s “Tha Crossroads.”
