It may not seem like it for Texans that find themselves out of work but, the Lone Star State is doing better than the rest of the nation.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, Texas had an unemployment rate of 4.4% for the month of May, unchanged from April. That figure is slightly better than the national average of 4.7%.

How are the figures around the state? The report says Amarillo had the lowest rate at 2.8%, Austin-Round Rock is at 2.9%, and McAllen-Edinburg-Mission has the highest unemployment rate in the state at 7%.

As far as counties in the crossroads, Victoria had the highest unemployment rate, with 2,239 people reported out of work. That figure doesn't take into account the number of people who may have stopped looking for work.
