Texas License Plates Go Classic Black

It's been a long time, nearly fifty years, since the Lone Star State has had license plates with a full black background but, now they are available again.

According to a press release,  My Plates, the official license plate vendor for the state of Texas has begun making the plates, which were proposed back in November. The Texas Department of motor Vehicles gave their approval, and preorders came in quickly.

Officials say they've received over 1400 orders for the plate, more than any other design on record.
