Texas...the Lone Star State. Our motto is 'Friendship' (shouldn't a motto be more than one word?) Our state song is 'Texas, Our Texas.' Our state animal is the armadillo, our state flower, the bluebonnet. Other than the one word motto, we have a state word.

Okay, it's not official like the other items mentioned above but, according to The Slate's United slang of America, our word is hoss.

Hoss...as in 'partner or 'friend.'

The Slate has some elaborate way of determining what a state's word ought to be, with the help of linguists (them's those fancy book-smart types that spend all day studying language), and that's what they came up with.

Now that I think about it, 'y'all' makes more sense to me, since I hear that all the time, and the only time I've ever hear 'hoss' used was in a western.
