The hardest rocking acoustic band of all time, Tenacious D, are once again ready to tear it up as they’ve got a new record to promote. Jack Black and Kyle Gass have always worn their influences on their sleeve, and the group have chosen to honor one of the all-time great bands – the Who – while on tour.

Loudwire reports that during their stop at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom, the boys took to it a new level by performing a medley of Who classics. After a brief toweling off between songs, Kyle Gass sent the crowd into a frenzy with the opening notes of ‘Pinball Wizard.’ And if there was ever a vocalist that could keep up with the song’s frenetic pacing, it would be Jack Black.

Jack and his musical partner KG seamlessly worked ‘Pinball Wizard’ into ‘There’s a Doctor’ and wrapped with a furious take on ‘Listening to You’ that had the crowd begging for more.

In addition to the Who medley, the band performed a stellar set that included ‘Roadie,’ ‘Low Hangin’ Fruit,’ and the title track from their new ‘Rize of the Fenix‘ album, as well as such past favorites as ‘Wonderboy,’ ‘Tribute,’ ‘Dio,’ and the show closer, ‘F— Her Gently.’

The Tenacious D current tour leg runs through July 29 in San Diego.
