You may recall an atmospheric black-and-white Iranian vampire film from a couple of years back called A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night; the debut feature from Ana Lily Amirpour was one of the best films of 2014, and introduced us to a promising new director. Amirpour is back this year with The Bad Batch, a dystopian cannibal western that’s playing this month at TIFF and stars Jason Momoa, Suki Waterhouse, Keanu Reeves and Jim Carrey (this cast is nuts, y’all). To give us a little, um, taste of what’s in store, two new clips from the film have debuted online, and they might be a little different from what you expected.

It’s been a rough road for D. J. Caruso’s haunted house horror The Disappointments Room — with Relativity Media going bankrupt, the film has had a difficult time grabbing a release date after it was removed from the studio’s release schedule. Finally, it’s been announced that The Disappointments Room will have a limited release and VOD premiere in September, and you can watch the first trailer right now.

After taking a brief break from horror to direct Furious 7, James Wan returns to his genre home base for The Conjuring 2, the follow-up to his hit 2013 poltergeist thriller. The latest trailer for the sequel is packed with lots of new footage, as Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga travel across the pond to investigate a terrifying case known as “England’s Amityville” — a haunting so dangerous that one of them may not make it out alive.

Surprise — Paramount has delayed the release date of their upcoming sequel to The Ring yet again, marking the third time that the studio has assigned a new release date to Rings, following a series of shifts for their long-developing Friday the 13th reboot / sequel / who-knows-what-it-is-anymore. Rings will now hit theaters this October…supposedly, maybe, possibly, we’ll see.

It’s been 37 years since the original Amityville Horror, which weirdly spawned 12 sequels, many of which were direct-to-video releases up until now. A new trailer for Amityville: The Awakening takes us back to the dreaded haunted house once again for the new sequel starring Jennifer Jason Leigh and Bella Thorne. And it looks about as corny as a direct-to-video sequel, but at least it has a good cast?

The trailer for the remake of Eli Roth’s campy horror classic Cabin Fever is less of a trailer, and more of an existential exercise in futility. To wit: what is the point of remaking a film if you’re just re-using the shooting script from the original? Perhaps Travis Zariwny’s remake isn’t an earnest attempt to re-adapt Roth’s original film, but instead to hold a mirror up to the Hollywood factory-culture of remakes that ultimately feel pointless and achieve far less than their superior predecessors. Or maybe this is just another dumb remake.
