[Taylor Swift voice] John Carpenter never goes out of style. The master filmmaker influenced a generation of movie nerds with his hyper-competent, crowd-pleasing genre pictures such as Halloween, The Thing, and They Live. His fingerprints are all over the modern horror canon, with his synths-and-neon aesthetic informing everything from Stranger Things to the widely under-appreciated The Guest. The latest film to kowtow to the Carpenter’s far-reaching legacy is The Void, a new chiller than many readily compared to The Thing when it debuted at Texas’ Fantastic Fest last fall. And with a new trailer available today, viewers can start to judge that for themselves.

Any contemporary sequel to The Ring would have to incorporate the internet, and why not? It just makes sense. Destroying a videotape is one thing, but how do you stop a haunted video once it’s been uploaded to the seemingly infinite void known as the worldwide web? You can’t. Such is the premise for Rings, the repeatedly-delayed sequel to Gore Verbinski’s 2002 remake of the Japanese horror classic which has a brand-new trailer ahead of its February release.

The Best Horror Movies of 2016
Horror is one of the most flexible film genres, encompassing everything from the broadly fantastical to the disturbingly real. Because of that, it’s sometimes hard to nail down exactly what belongs on a “best horror” round-up and what doesn’t. Undoubtedly, genre aficionados will quibble about what’s on and what’s off the list below, not just because of differences of opinion over quality, but because of disagreements over definition.

This Trailer for ‘The Autopsy of Jane Doe’ Is Absolutely Terrifying
A December release can be a tricky thing for a horror film. On the one hand, with the holidays just around the corner and award season in full swing, the overall demand for blood and monsters will never be lower. On the other hand, however, the right horror movie can serve as a smart piece of counter-programming for those tired of reruns of A Christmas Story on TBS or another politically charged conversation with the in-laws. Sometimes, even the best of us just want to slip away to the theater and watch a weird, messed up movie.

Watch the First Teaser for James Gunn’s Office Horror ‘The Belko Experiment’
I’ve always wondered why more horror films aren’t set in corporate environments. While the office remains a popular setting for comedies and the ubiquitous faux-documentary television programs, anything darker  —  such as the 2006 horror film Severance which centers on a group of coworkers in the midst of an office wilderness retreat  —  remains the exception rather than the rule. For how much hidden animosity and frustration your typical office building contains, you’d think this would be an area ripe for exploration by the right twisted storyteller.

What Is Going On in This Terrifying Trailer for Russian Horror Movie ‘The Bride’?
Unless you’re fluent in Russian (and we’re not), you’ll have a hard time figuring out what the story is in this new trailer for an upcoming horror film called The Bride. The subtitles aren’t in English, so we’re definitely missing out on what appears to be some sort of narrative setup, but one thing is for sure: Whatever the hell is going on in this trailer, it’s terrifying.

Take Your Pills and Watch the Creepy New ‘A Cure for Wellness’ Trailer
At the uppermost level, corporate culture has taken a turn for the New Agey. Silicon Valley has amply parodied the recent fad of nebulously defined spiritualism among the top players in the start-up world, where CEOs journey into the desert for days at a time to trip on ayahuasca and come up with a name for their newly integrated media vertical, or whatever. Corporate types have begun to act like Burning Man attendees, and with his upcoming psychological thriller A Cure for Wellness, Gore Verbinski puts a horrifying spin on this spreading trend.

After costing Disney a pretty penny (or millions of them) with The Lone Ranger and having his North Korea thriller with Steve Carell nixed by New Regency, Gore Verbinski has finally returned with a new film. Originally scheduled to hit theaters this year, A Cure for Wellness was pushed back to February 2017, but a pair of mysteriously creepy viral promos should get you pretty excited for The Ring director’s return to the horror genre.

‘Get Out’ Trailer: Jordan Peele’s Horror Satire Finally Sees the Light of Day
After it was announced that Comedy Central’s Key & Peele was coming to an end, the world wondered, what would these two get up to next? Their first feature Keanu, a comedic John Wick parody about a kitten that gets catnapped by gangsters, was more or less just okay, more a feature-length comedy sketch that ran on too long, rather than an actual movie. Bu...

‘The Invitation’ Director Karyn Kusama to Helm Horror Flick ‘Breed’
Karyn Kusama handily delivered one of this year’s best thrillers with The Invitation, an incredibly unnerving and masterful “horror film for grown-ups” that proves you don’t need gimmicky jump scares and supernatural creatures to create chilling atmosphere and spooky vibes. Although her most recent effort wasn’t overt horror, it looks like Kusama’s next project definitely is, as she’s attached herself to helm Breed for executive producer Scott Frank.

‘Annabelle 2’ Trailer: Oh Good, That Creepy Doll Is Back Again
Just when you thought it was safe to buy dolls again…Nope. Here’s the first trailer for Annabelle 2, which, as the title suggests, is a sequel to last year’s relatively successful James Wan-produced spinoff of The Conjuring, featuring that damn creepy doll and her creepy antics. This time, she’s terrorizing a doll-maker, and that seems totally fair, to be honest, since he’s responsible for the creation of her kind and their endless suffering at the hands of ruthless children.

The New ‘Ouija: Origin of Evil’ Trailer Explains What It’s Like to Be Strangled to Death
2014's Ouija didn’t exactly receive glowing reviews, but that hasn’t stopped Universal from resurrecting a sequel out of it. Ouija: Origin of Evil has a completely new cast and a different story from the original, the only thing carried over from one to the other being, of course, the titular board. Today the film debuted a chilling new trailer.
