Greenpeace’s Star Wars Ad Campaign Rags on VW for Opposing Proposed European Climate Change Law [VIDEO]

It started with a New Years greeting in a Facebook post by Volkswagen that seemed innocent enough this week:
We hope you had a fantastic New Year. Do you have any resolutions and what would you like to see us do more of this year?
Replies were mostly what you'd expect, people saying things they liked about the cars the company makes, items they'd like to see in future models. Then Greenpeace urged it's fans the next day to ambush the VW post:
Hello friends,  Volkswagen are asking on their Facebook page 'what would you like to see us do more of this year?' Well, Volkswagen U.K., we'd like you to stop threatening our planet by lobbying against climate laws. That would make a nice 2012. Click on their link and add your message.
The company's post got hundreds of replies, which resulted in a rather large regret that they ever opened that particular can of worms. Check out this video put together by Greenpeace that very cleverly gets their environmental message across.

How Women Got Revenge Before Facebook [PICTURE]

Before Facebook, Twitter and the internet, how did people spread news to one another? We assume newspapers, talky pictures and the Victrola but we aren’t sure what any of those things are.

Telephone poles were probably useful in getting out a message to the community. Especially in

Study Finds Decreased Social Media Use Among Many Younger People

A study by technology research firm Gartner, which recently surveyed 6,295 people between the ages of 13 and 74, reveals almost a quarter of 18- to 29-year-olds use social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter less than when they first signed up for the services, with many saying the services simply aren’t that much fun anymore.

“The trend shows some social media fatigue among early adopters,” says Brian Blau, research director at Gartner. “And the fact that 31 percent of younger consumers indicated that they were getting bored with their social network is a situation that social media providers should monitor, as they will need to innovate and diversify to keep consumer attention.”

I knew that damned ole facebook was gonna be trouble. But ruining marriages is one thing. Addiction to "Farmville" is stupid and irritating to hear someone talk about, but it's not the real problem now either.

Dallas City Workers Get Counseling for Using Facebook Too Much On the Job

Technically, Dallas city workers aren't allowed to do personal business when they are on the taxpayer's dime.

Which is why two dozen workers at Dallas' city hall are in hot water after a probe revealed that they were spending a good chunk of their day on Facebook.

This is Not the Casey Anthony You’re Looking For

There are times when I am mildly entertained by the name my parents chose for me.

Particularly, I enjoy going to the doctor’s office and watching the face of the nurse as she first struggles to pronounce my first name and then as she finally says it and sees me in all my goatee-d glory stand and head her way.

Amused or not, however, if someone searches for my name on a social networking site or the Internet in general, it’s a pretty sure bet it’ll be me you find and not some poor unfortunate soul who shares the same name.

Johnny Depp Electrifies Crowd By Joining Alice Cooper On Stage [VIDEO]

For alt-rock fans with long memories, Johnny Depp isn’t just a world-famous actor, he’s also the guy who played guitar and bass for Butthole Surfer frontman Gibby Haynes’ short-lived group P. But for pretty much everyone else, the sight of Depp rocking out with Alice Cooper on a London stage comes as a shock.

Depp joined Cooper for the latter’s show in London’s 100 Club over the weekend, an appearance teased by Cooper when he posted a backstage picture to his Facebook account with the caption “Johnny Depp!! Waiting to jump on stage with Alice for ’18′ and ‘Schools Out!’”

British Citizens Dress Like the Undead for Zombie Awareness [VIDEO]

A group of about 200 concerned citizens dressed as zombies this weekend and marched through the British city of Leicester to highlight the city’s lack of preparation for an uprising of the undead. After Leicester resident Robert Ainsley learned (via a freedom of information request) that the city did not have a zombie contingency plan built into its emergency preparations, he and 26-year-old politics graduate James Dixon used Twitter and Facebook to mobilize the masses. The demonstrators walked from the famous Haymarket Memorial Clock Tower to the offices of city council in protest.

Videos of the zombie march below:

Woman Attempts to Hire Hitman on Facebook [VIDEO]

We’ve all updated our Facebook and Twitter accounts with messages we’ve later regretted, but most of the time they’re completely legal. Such wasn’t the case for 20-year-old Eley London, a mother from Philadelphia who told Facebook she’d “pay a stack” for someone to kill her baby’s father.
